The Premier League season is almost one-third of the way through ahead of the final international break of the calendar year, and the relegation battle is heating up.
Bottom three Norwich City, Southampton and Watford are separated by just a single point while Aston Villa are in 17th, though only three points clear of the Hornets one place below them.
Having dropped off since their incredible 3-2 win over Manchester City, bet365 make Norwich 1/4 (1.25) favourites to drop back into the Championship after only earning promotion last season.
Daniel Farke’s men looked bright at the start of the campaign, beating Newcastle 3-1 before that famous victory against the champions, but have picked up just one point from their seven games since then.
Most of those seven results have not been close, either. All six losses came by more than one goal and in total, Norwich have shipped 16 goals during that run while netting just two goals of their own.
Watford’s season was trending in a similar way, with the Hornets having to wait until their 12th game for victory when they won 2-0 at Norwich, although bet365 still offer them at 10/11 (1.91) to go down.
Javi Gracia was fired by the Vicarage Road outfit after earning just one point from four games, though the return of Quique Sanchez Flores still only saw Watford pick up three more points from an available 18 prior to their win at Carrow Road.
Southampton have flirted with relegation in each of the last two campaigns and it is 6/4 (2.50) that their Premier League tenure ends after eight seasons in the top-flight.
The Saints have lost six and drawn one of their last seven games, including a record 9-0 loss at home to Leicester, and have conceded 29 times this term – the most of any club.
Aston Villa are 13/8 (2.63) to return straight back to the second-tier after losing their last three fixtures, leaving them three points above 18th but also just six points off fifth.
Though up in 13th, Newcastle are next in the betting at 10/3 (4.33). Steve Bruce’s men won just one of their opening seven games but recovered to win three of their last five, moving them eight points clear of the bottom three.
