ESPN: Man Utd contact West Ham regarding Matheus Fernandes transfer

According to ESPN reporter Rob Dawson, Man United have contacted West Ham United regarding the transfer of Matheus Fernandes.

The report states that sources told ESPN Man United have reached an agreement with Atalanta for the transfer of midfielder Ederson Silva.

Atalanta have accepted an initial offer of £35 million, plus up to £4 million in variable bonus clauses linked to the 26-year-old's performance.

Ederson Silva is expected to sign a contract until 2030, with an option for a one-year extension. He will become Man United's first signing this summer and the first since Michael Carrick was officially appointed permanent head coach.

Sources told ESPN that Man United have been monitoring Ederson for some time. Man United were able to act quickly after his potential move to Atlético Madrid stalled.

The Brazilian midfielder has made 180 appearances for Atalanta over four years and has played 3 times for the Brazilian national team. The deal will be officially completed once he passes his medical examination.

Following the agreement with Ederson, Man United are expected to accelerate their pursuit of West Ham United midfielder Matheus Fernandes.

Sources told ESPN that Man United have contacted West Ham United about a potential transfer for the 21-year-old. Following West Ham United's relegation to the Championship, Matheus Fernandes is expected to leave this summer.

Man United also hope to strengthen the left-back position this summer. There are currently doubts within the team over whether Luke Shaw can cope with a three-game-a-week schedule in both the Premier League and the Champions League this season.

Meanwhile, sources told ESPN that goalkeeper André Onana, who spent last season on loan at Trabzonspor, plans to return to Carrington for pre-season training this summer, provided no new transfer agreement is reached before then.

The 30-year-old goalkeeper has been told that he is not part of Man United's plans for next season.
