Arsenal’s interest in Eberechi Eze remains genuine - but growing internal doubt over whether the Crystal Palace star fits their tactical puzzle has been threatening to stall any potential move.
The Gunners have explored the details of Eze’s release clause and have been weighing up a bid in recent weeks. The 27-year-old has been quietly optimistic, telling those close to him that he believed a switch to the Emirates was within reach this summer.
However, despite the buzz, the move has not materialised - and now the hesitation is starting to make more sense.
Arsenal’s recruitment team are understood to admire Eze’s technical quality and versatility, but there is a feeling that he is best suited to a central attacking role. And that space is already well covered in Mikel Arteta’s squad.
The concern is creating a tactical dilemma, as Arsenal are unsure whether they can fit another No. 10-style player into their squad.
A well-placed source described how Arsenal have done their homework on Eze and run the numbers, but ultimately, they are still not entirely sure if he is what they need right now.

A decision will have to be made soon, but it is this uncertainty that has caused the process to drag, and left the door ajar for other clubs.
Crystal Palace, aware of Arsenal’s indecision, have been working to draw Chelsea and Tottenham into the mix in the hope of generating competition for their star man.
Eze is committed to Palace for now, but the presence of a £68million release clause gives top clubs a clear pathway if they choose to take it.
He has not actively been pushing for an exit - but he is ready, if the right club steps forward.
Whether Arsenal decide to move or walk away will come down to one key choice on whether they can truly make room for another No. 10.
If they decide to go for it, Eze is ready to sign up.
If not, someone else just might nab him - and Arsenal could be left watching a player they admire light it up somewhere else.

If Arsenal is a serious club, they will sign him ASAP and use him as a cover for LW at times. If he is deployed to be on the LW in some games, then Califiori will be needed at the LB position to run the channels and then Eze drifts into the middle the more. Eze wouldn’t be a touchline winger rather as someone who will drift inside the midfield and dominate play. Rice can drop to the bench for him to play with Odegarrd and Zubimendi or Zubimendi can drop for Rice and we will see Eze and Odegarrd. There are many ways to do these things but Arsenal are not just ready. Lets watch and see as the whole saga unfurls

I'm convinced Arsenal will be competitive with any European club next season.
