Eddie Howe 'has agreed a deal to become the new Celtic manager' and will take over in the summer.

The 43-year-old, who left Bournemouth after eight years in charge last August, is reportedly finalising his backroom staff for the Parkhead job.

TalkSPORT say Howe has agreed to take on the challenge of wrestling the Scottish Premiership title back from Old Firm rivals Rangers.

Steven Gerrard has revitalised the Ibrox club and they easily won the title this season to deny Celtic 10 in a row.

Neil Lennon resigned as manager on February 24 with Celtic trailing Rangers by 18 points and John Kennedy took over as caretaker boss until the end of the season.

They will finish a campaign without any silverware for the first time since 2009-10.

Howe, who left Bournemouth after 458 matches in charge over two spells following their relegation from the Premier League, is looking to recruit some of his former staff from the Vitality Stadium.

Bournemouth, now coached by Jonathan Woodgate, are preparing for the Championship play-offs, where they face Brentford in the semi-finals.

However, his successor as manager there, Jason Tindall, will not be coming with him, according to talkSPORT.
