Eddie Howe insists new £60million striker Alexander Isak's 'X-factor' suits the Premier League

Eddie Howe cannot wait to unleash Alexander Isak’s ‘X-factor’ on the Premier League.

And the Newcastle boss is hopeful the club record £60million swoop for the Swedish international will not be their last foray into the transfer market before the close of the summer window.

Isak — dubbed the next Zlatan Ibrahimovic — has put the finishing touches to a £125,000-a-week move from Real Sociedad.

The 22-year-old could make his debut at Wolves tomorrow.

The move takes Newcastle’s transfer spending this year to just short of £250million and Howe said: ‘Alex will be a big player for us. Naturally from my perspective I’d like to push as much as we can to improve the squad but I’m aware we have to be very careful in terms of finances, so I need to sit down with the club and have those discussions.

‘He has the mix of qualities I like in a forward. He scores goals, he has pace, technical ability, dribbling ability and he’s got a bit of an X-factor about him.

‘The English game will suit his profile, he’s a really good athlete and technically really good so he’s got a whole host of things going for him and his best years are still ahead of him. I can understand the fans’ excitement because I’m excited about it too.’

Isak has scored nine goals in 37 internationals and came to Newcastle’s attention last year while playing for his country. He found the net 44 times in 132 games over three seasons in Spain.

Howe is keen to pair his latest arrival up front with Callum Wilson when the England forward shakes off another hamstring injury.

He added: ‘We don’t believe Callum’s injury to be serious, he’ll only be out for a couple of weeks.

‘I don’t doubt Callum for a second. I see him and Alexander playing together. They’re very different players with unique strengths.’
