Wolves head coach Rob Edwards believes his players were affected by the negative atmosphere among the home fans at Molineux as they laboured to a 1-1 draw against 10-man Sunderland.
The visitors took the lead through Nordi Mukiele in the 17th minute, but defender Dan Ballard was then sent off just seven minutes later for a hair pull on Tolu Arokodare.
Santiago Bueno equalised for the hosts after half-time, scoring his third goal of the season, but a largely mutinous crowd booed the relegated side at the end of the match, while Edwards himself was jeered after bringing on Angel Gomes for Hugo Bueno.
The Englishman, who has won five of his 26 games in charge since joining from Middlesbrough last year, admitted that his side struggled to perform in that atmosphere.
“It’s a difficult atmosphere for the lads to play in,” Edwards said to BBC Sport.
“A lot of anger around, and I think that made them [the players] anxious.
“It’s understandable, we’re bottom of the league, we’ve been relegated.
“There’s nothing we can do other than work really hard in training and find some results.”
Sunderland now have 47 points this season, having only amassed more in the Premier League during two successive seasons in 1999-2000 and 2000-2001, under Peter Reid.
Sunderland’s current head coach Regis Le Bris was still left disappointed with the result, along with the decision to send Ballard off in the first half.
“The decision [red card] changed the flow of the game," he told BBC Sport.
“I understand the rule but it’s hard to understand in that condition as it wasn’t intentional or violent conduct.
“We started well, we scored, we were dominant. We [also] created at the end, but it’s a point.”
