Eibar 2-0 Atletico: Atleti are still haunted by Copa loss as chances are wasted

Atletico Madrid lost ground on the leaders in LaLiga Santander as they were beaten 2-0 by Eibar.

Los Rojiblancos are now eight points behind first-place Real Madrid and remain five points behind second-place Barcelona, who play on Sunday.

The hosts were the much better side in the opening exchanges at Ipurua and thought they'd taken the lead when Esteban Burgos tapped in from Sergi Enrich's flick-on.

The goal was initially ruled out for offside, but that decision was overturned and the goal stood after a VAR review.

Atletico had chances to get back into the game in the second half, with Santiago Arias seeing his volley bounce wide of the fair post just after the interval.

A few minutes later, the ball fell to Angel Correa on the edge of the area, but his shot was wide of the near post.

With 20 minutes to go, Alvaro Morata could only head into Marko Dmitrovic's arms from Saul's cross before Renan Lodi dragged his shot wide ten minutes later.

Edu Exposito made sure of the victory for Eibar as he drilled the ball past Jan Oblak from the edge of the penalty box.

The win takes Eibar further away from the relegation zone while Atletico stay in third.

Saul gets into the penalty area down the left, but his square pass into the centre goes behind Joao Felix, which allows Bigas to clear, but only after some pressure from Correa.

A corner for the hosts is nodded out of the penalty area by Savic, who only puts it onto the edge of the 18 for Exposito. The midfielder settles the ball down and calmly rolls it into the corner of the goal!
