England's crestfallen stars were spotted sinking into the arms of their wives and girlfriends after being dumped out of the World Cup by France last night.

The Three Lions were sent home at the end of an action-packed evening with Olivier Giroud's 78th-minute header proving the killer blow, though Harry Kane's missed penalty in the dying minutes was arguably the real difference-maker.

Many of England's WAGs were in the stands cheering their men on during the match, and offered up a supportive shoulder after the game.

Manchester City star Jack Grealish was seen getting consoled by long-term partner Sasha Atwood, while Harry Kane, who looked in pieces at full time, was spotting smiling with wife Katie.

Jordan Pickford got a hug from his three-year-old son Arlo as wife Megan looked on, while a dejected Harry Maguire was offered some sympathetic words by partner Fern Hawkins, with whom he recently tied the knot with.

Elsewhere, Phil Foden was spotted with his hands on his head alongside girlfriend Rebecca Cooke, while a smiling Luke Shaw shared a comforting hug with girlfriend Anouska Santos.

Many of the WAGs spent the tournament off shore on a luxury cruise liner in order to circumvent Qatar's strict dress code and alcohol laws, while others opted to stay in hotels in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, a few hundred miles down the coast in neighbour UAE.

England's defeat last night was their first before the semi-final in a major tournament under Gareth Southgate, who many suspect might step down following six years in the job.

After the game, the 52-year-old told reporters that both he and the FA needed to "review and reflect" on the situation, and said they'd come to a mutual decision about his future once they decide what's best for the team going forward.
