England fans joke 'another Simpsons prediction comes true' with James' pink hair

England fans are sure that Reece James' new pink hairstyle was inspired by Lisa Simpson.

The Chelsea full-back debuted his bold new barnet against Italy at the San Siro on Friday night, with a pink and white streak added to his hair ahead of the match. However, his new look did little to help him or his England team-mates as they slumped to a disappointing 1-0 defeat in Milan in their penultimate match before the World Cup.

During the match, fans could not help but notice James' hair, with one fan even tweeting a side-by-side comparison of him and Lisa Simpson.

In the image, Lisa is shown with pink and white cream in her hair as she bares a striking resemblance to James' newest hairstyle.

After seeing the comparison, one England fan joked: "Another Simpsons prediction comes true." Another added: "We was beat as soon as Reece James put a pink stripe in his hair."

A third supporter also wrote: "This game is almost as bad as Reece James' hair." Meanwhile, another tweeted: "The only highlights from tonight's game are in Reece James's hair."

James played the full 90 minutes as England fell to defeat in Milan, their fifth consecutive match without winning, starting at right-wing-back as Gareth Southgate lined up with five at the back.

The appearance marked his 13th international cap and the third consecutive England match that the Chelsea man has started.

He was unable to prevent Giacomo Raspadori from opening the scoring for the hosts in the 68th minute, with the Napoli forward finding the bottom corner from the edge of the box.

Raspadori's goal proved to be the difference on the night as England failed to recover from the setback, marking three straight matches without scoring.

England have also now failed to score from open play since their 3-0 win over the Ivory Coast at Wembley Stadium back in March.

As a result of Friday night's defeat, England have also been relegated from Division A of the Nations League with one match to spare.

Monday night's match with Germany will conclude their campaign and also acts as the final match before Southgate finalises his 26-man squad for the World Cup in Qatar.
