England grant Joleon Lescott permission to leave Under 21s camp for the Champions League final

England have given Under-21 coach Joleon Lescott special dispensation to attend Saturday’s Champions League final.

Lescott is on camp with the Young Lions ahead of their European Championship campaign in Romania and Georgia, a tournament that kicks off in under a fortnight [June 21].

The former England centre half helps assist Lee Carsley alongside Ashley Cole but combines that with punditry work for BT Sport.

Lescott officially works for the FA on a consultancy basis, although plays a key role within Carsley's backroom staff and often leads individual training drills.

The FA have allowed Lescott to fulfil his broadcasting duties when Manchester City meet Inter in Turkey and it means the former City defender, who has also been taking part in BT’s build-up to the final, will link back up with the Under 21s early next week before they fly out to their base in Georgia.

England’s first game is against Czech Republic, in a group that also contains Germany and Israel. Meanwhile, City midfielder James McAtee is set to miss the tournament through injury.

McAtee impressed on loan at Sheffield United and is attracting interest this summer as City decide whether or not his development is best served back with Pep Guardiola’s squad.

Lescott has had to balance his broadcasting duties with his consultancy role within the national team set-up over the course of the season that could conclude with Man City lifting the Champions League trophy on Saturday.

The 40-year-old won two Premier League titles during his City career that spanned over 160 appearances for the Manchester club.

Lescott has been involved in BT Sport's coverage of the Champions League and Premier League this season and will be part of a broadcasting team featuring Peter Crouch and Jermaine Jenas in Istanbul.

On Wednesday, the former England defender posted an image alongside his colleagues on board a plane heading for the Turkish city where Europe's showpiece event will be hosted.
