Erik ten Hag is reportedly taking an active role as Manchester United look to secure cover for goalkeeper for David De Gea.
The news comes just days after Dean Henderson, currently on loan at Nottingham Forest from United, delivered a scathing interview criticising the treatment he had been subjected to at his parent club.
The 25-year-old told TalkSport: 'The conversation I had, coming out of the Euros squad (with England), was that you're coming back here (to United) to be the No 1 goalkeeper. I got Covid, then unfortunately no-one followed through with anything they told me.'
Henderson had originally been slated to take over the goalkeeping duties at Old Trafford, but the lingering aftereffects of COVID combined with De Gea's good form saw the former Sheffield United 'keeper's first-team opportunities limited last term.
In Henderson's absence, former England international Tom Heaton is currently number 2 at United, having signed for the club from Aston Villa last summer.
With the goalkeeping situation at United in a state of flux, young stopper Nathan Bishop has been denied a loan move to Wycombe as Ten Hag looks to bolster his options between the sticks before allowing any further departures.
Earlier this summer United had been slated to make a move for Watford's Daniel Bachmann, who spent last season alternating goalkeeping duties with Ben Foster as the Hornets were relegated from the Premier League.
De Gea is currently the world's highest paid goalkeeper at United, signing a four-year deal worth up to £375,000-a-week in 2019.
The 31-year-old has spent more than a decade at Old Trafford, and alongside Phil Jones, is one of just two current United players who featured when the club last tasted Premier League glory back in 2013.
