Erik ten Hag says Lisandro Martinez has returned to Manchester United with more confidence following his World Cup triumph with Argentina.
The 24-year-old capped a stratospheric year with the ultimate international honour earlier in the month, but has already switched his focus to ending it with another win for United.
Martinez returned to training in midweek after being given time off to celebrate the World Cup win, and could return to the United side for their trip to Wolves this lunchtime.
Ten Hag says the international success has already had a clear positive impact on Martinez, but he has warned the former Ajax defender that there is now even more pressure on him to deliver.
''He’s tough. Of course it’s an unbelievable highlight for him, when you win the World Cup with your team then [there are] celebrations in Argentina where there is passion all around," Ten Hag told club media.
"He has come back and you can see his confidence has even increased. He’s so happy, but now he is back here with both feet on the ground because he knows that in every game now he is a World Cup winner and every opponent is even more focused and convinced to beat him, so he has to do better than he already was.
"I’m sure every player who played at the World Cup will be a better player after it and when you win it, you definitely are.''
