Erik ten Hag urged to sign USA star after Manchester United transfer links

Freddy Adu has suggested that Manchester United should attempt to sign USA international Sergino Dest after being linked with the full-back earlier this year.

Dest was strongly linked with a move to United in the summer, with reports suggesting that Erik ten Hag was keen to bring his former Ajax defender to Old Trafford. The Dutchman was keen to sign someone who could compete with Diogo Dalot, but a move failed to materialise.

Instead, the 22-year-old full-back ended up joining Italian giants AC Milan on loan after falling down the pecking order under Xavi at Barcelona. Dest has made nine appearances for Milan so far this term but has only started on two occasions.

Ex-USA international Adu has claimed that the defender could be the right fit at Old Trafford, with Aaron Wan-Bissaka surplus to requirements under Ten Hag.

"I think he’d be a great signing for Man U – the way he plays, he’s so good in his position and with the current state of Manchester United right now, they need as many good players as they can get," Adu told Offers.Bet.

"The team isn’t exactly the Manchester United that we have come to know. They’re still playing well and they’ve got better and playing better, but they are far from the Manchester United that we come to remember. I hope he does go there as I think he would help the team out a lot."

Dalot has established himself as the club's first-choice right-back after making a strong start to the campaign. The Portuguese defender had started every Premier League match until he missed the 2-1 victory over Fulham through suspension.

While Wan-Bissaka was available for selection, Ten Hag opted to play left-back Tyrell Malacia on the right flank in place of the suspended Dalot.
