European Qualifiers for World Cup: Group standings, who needs what

The state of play across the ten European Qualifiers groups going into the final group games.

The European Qualifiers for the 2022 FIFA World Cup are at their business end.

Each team has one match at most left to play between 14 and 16 November, after which the ten direct qualifiers and 12 play-off contenders will be confirmed. We look at the state of play across the ten groups.

Qualified as group winners: Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany

Confirmed in top two of their group: Croatia, England, Italy, Poland, Portugal, Russia, Serbia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland

Can also still qualify automatically: Netherlands, Norway, Turkey

Confirmed in play-offs: Scotland

Can still finish runners-up in group: Armenia, Czech Republic*, Finland, North Macedonia, Romania, Ukraine, Wales*

Qualified for play-offs via UEFA Nations League rankings: Austria

*One of Wales and Czech Republic is guaranteed a play-off place via UEFA Nations League rankings.
