According to the Evening Standard, Carrick is under immense pressure in his role as Manchester United manager, but still appears to have the players' support. A Manchester United player has revealed the dressing room's reaction following Carrick's decision to stay on.
Carrick was on the verge of being sacked after Sunday's 3-0 home defeat to AFC Bournemouth. Days earlier, Manchester United had lost 4-1 to Como in the Champions League.
However, the Manchester United hierarchy decided to give Carrick more time, and the former midfielder is expected to lead the team in this weekend's away match against Chelsea.
After Sunday's match against AFC Bournemouth, Manchester United fans directed their boos more at the players than at the embattled Carrick.
It appears that at least one player in the Manchester United dressing room shares a similar view.
BBC Sport quoted an unnamed player as saying: "Our feeling is that everyone wants to put things right. Players, staff, everyone."
On Wednesday, Carrick held a "frank discussion" with captain Bruno Fernandes, who was unhappy about not playing in the loss to AFC Bournemouth.
After Manchester United's 4-1 Champions League loss to Como, Bruno Fernandes publicly criticized Carrick's tactics. The manager responded through the media and subsequently excluded the star midfielder from the match against AFC Bournemouth.
The Portuguese international was not the only player to make strong statements to the media in recent weeks. Earlier this month, following Manchester United's Champions League loss to Atlético Madrid, defender Lisandro Martínez criticized the club's recruitment and specifically named technical director Jason Wilcox.
Unlike Bruno Fernandes, Lisandro Martínez was not excluded from the next match. He started in Manchester United's 1-1 draw with Leeds United but was substituted at halftime due to injury.
Currently, Manchester United sit in 16th place in the league table, their worst start to a Premier League season in the club's history.
Manchester United minority shareholder and head of football operations Sir Jim Ratcliffe will travel to the UK to watch the team's match against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.
