There was to be no late drama in the Merseyside derby this time as Everton and Liverpool played out a goalless draw in the Premier League.
Match Report
Liverpool could not break down a stubborn Everton in Sunday's Merseyside derby, with Jurgen Klopp's side denied the chance to reclaim top spot in the Premier League.
Manchester City's 1-0 win at Bournemouth a day earlier moved the defending champions back to the summit, meaning Liverpool had to win at Goodison Park on Sunday to go top once more.
But with Mohamed Salah wasting the clearest chance of the game for Liverpool, Everton prevented their rivals from taking another step towards the club's first title of the Premier League era.

14' CHANCE! Salah's shot saved
Everton and Liverpool both initiate attacks only for them to break down. Henderson looks up and aims a pinpoint direct pass for Salah breaking through the back-line. Everton put it out for a throw-in. From the throw, Salah cuts inside on his left foot in the box but his shot is at a comfortable height for Pickford.
28' Salah misses one-on-one chance
What a save by Pickford! The left side of Everton's defence switches off and Salah is suddenly through on goal. Salah drifts towards Pickford's near post and fires across the keeper but Pickford's right arm is equal to it! Henderson's follow-up shot is blocked.
38' WIDE! Walcott's shot fades away from the target
Keane launches a mortar pass forward towards Walcott who's surprisingly being played onside by Matip. Walcott has a pop but it's way high and wide of Alisson's goal. At least Everton have had an attempt now.
54' Alexander-Arnold's free-kick saved by Pickford
Up the other end, Mane wins a free-kick from a tussle with Gueye. Alexander-Arnold steps up to drop a shot over the wall. Pickford drops low to collect.
56' Salah misses one-on-one chance again
Henderson goes on a dazzling run through the centre of the pitch and pops a ball to Salah, whose first touch is just a little heavy. He looks likely to score but Pickford and Keane combine to deny him! The follow-up corner isn't worth mentioning.

King Man City was a bit sick and the interim was momentarily assumed by one of the Princes named Liverpool. After a few weeks, King Man City has totally recovered, and though the Prince has starting enjoying the Throne, reluctantly but compulsorily, he left the Golden Throne to the now recovered reigning King, King Man City. What a wasteful performance Liverpool! What a waste! But it's clear you don't have what it takes to reign.
Welcome back to the Throne Man City!
As for the pundits who kept screaming that Liverpool is in control, I'd like to have your ever 'intelligent' and expert analysis now!

If this hopeless team call Liverpool can not win this EPL now they will never it again... because there is no better opportunity to so other than this season, in fairness the God of soccer has favour them this season more than 3 times, at a time they were leading with 8 point, what happened those point vaporized in matter of few week, this what gonna happen next season Man united will mount strong challenge for EPL , Chelsea, Arsenal are team that has what it take to also win it...I seriously don't understand this Liverpool FC..(maybe they all need to go an take a bath at river) I have beginning to smell a bad luck around this team again... they have indeed worked like elephant now they want to eat like rat..

Liverpool keep possession but just can't break the duck, the forwards today was off form and Henderson should be taken off and be replaced by Shaqiri but Klopp didn't do it, ended up in a 0-0 draw. Now City was leading Liverpool, the Reds just can't afford to drop any more points. YNWA

We wasted so many chances this match the match never ended the way as the supporters of Liverpool would have expected it to be...... Clearly I wanted Shaqiri to start in place of Milner as he could give that depth but he wasn't in XI then Playing Origi wasn't a fine decision....... We might not have lost yet for the title race but now we have to depend on the result of City matches which I hate cause we should try harder each and every match not thinking about any team's failure ....... I still have trust.... You'll never walk alone....😊

I’m a Liverpool fan and I must say this current team is simply not good enough to win the title. Honestly Klopp has a pretty bad record of delivering when it matters most (cup finals, crucial EPL matches) Failing to deliver under pressure and failing to capitalise on slip ups from Man City earlier this season is the reason why we 1pt behind now.

I don't understand why Klopp starts Henderson. he needs to start a creative midfielder specifically Kieta. without a creative midfielder Liverpool will find it tough. they cannot always rely on only the front three to create as well as finish.

Why don't use Salah as substitute when against vs best team. Salah can't score by itself this year's. He's only good for vs lousy team. Before playing against Everton we already know Salah will NEVER score. It's due to most people's knowing that Salah waiting 1 to 1 passing only he can scores but Liverpool no one going to do that as Salah scoring are not smart . Weak and no.power.
