Everton Official Announcement:

The Club is surprised and dismayed by the decision of the Premier League's independent disciplinary commission to order compensation to be paid to Burnley, a decision related to Everton's breach of PSR regulations in June 2022. Everton has appealed the ruling and has made it clear that it believes the ruling is fundamentally flawed both legally and factually.

The Club does not accept the panel's finding that Burnley's relegation from the Premier League in May 2022 was due to a sporting advantage gained from Everton's breach of Profitability and Sustainability Rules, for which Everton has already received a substantial sporting penalty.

Given that the ruling is based on the principle that a Club can breach financial rules at any time during a financial year, it sets a dangerous and unworkable precedent for English football. Everton believes that the arbitration panel's ruling misrepresents the clear evidence presented by its legal representatives and states that the appeal will be successful.

The Club is confident in its continued compliance with PSR (Professional Football Rules) and has received confirmation from the Premier League that this ruling should not be used as a basis for future PSR penalties. Everton fans can rest assured that the Club's management is focused with even greater determination on achieving its vision of returning to the pinnacle of English football and will not make any further comments on the matter until the appeal process is successfully concluded.
