Everton opted against opening talks with former Manchester United forward Memphis Depay earlier this summer.
It is understood Depay, who has scored 34 goals in 88 league games since signing for Lyon, had been touted round to several clubs in England and Europe.
Depay’s contract with Ligue 1 side Lyon expires in the summer of 2021.
