Every ex-Liverpool player currently in management & those who are title winners

There are a number of Liverpool players who have turned their hand to management over the years.

Some have been very successful while others struggled after hanging up their boots.

Whatever the case there are some very interesting and varied careers for these former Reds.

So, here are all of the former players who have showed off their skills in front of the Anfield faithful and are currently in management around the world:

Steven Gerrard

Gerrard made 710 appearances for Liverpool, winning nine pieces of major silverware and scoring 186 goals.

He was appointed as the club's U18s manager in 2017 but left the following summer to join Rangers as manager.

The former midfielder is continuing to lead the Scottish Premier League giants this season and is contracted at the Ibrox until 2022.

Robbie Fowler

Fowler made 369 appearances for the Reds, scored 183 goals and was christened 'God' by the Anfield faithful.

He started his managerial career at Muangthong United in the First Tier of the Thai League in the 2011/12 season as player manager.

The former striker is set to take charge of Brisbane Roar in the Australian A-League from the start of the 2019/20 season - having signed a two-year contract in April this year.

Xabi Alonso

Alonso made 210 appearances for Liverpool and was a firm Kop favourite.

The former midfielder took his first step into management this summer by taking charge of Real Sociedad B team who play in the Segunda Division B.

Stephane Henchoz

Henchoz made 205 appearances for the Reds from 1999 to 2004 and played a huge part in helping Gerard Houllier's then side to a treble in 2001.

He started his managerial career with Blackburn Rovers U18s set up after retiring at the club in 2008.

The former defender then went back to his Swiss homeland in 2009 to manage FC Bulle in the fourth division for one year.

He joined former club Neuchatel Xamax as assistant manager in 2015 before being appointed as manager in February 2019 for 19 matches.

Henchoz then switched to manage FC Sion in the Swiss Super League where he has a contract until 2020.

Igor Biscan

Biscan made 118 appearances at Liverpool, was a part of the treble-winning team of 2001 and was a Champions League winner with the club in 2005 in what was his last season with the Reds.

He joined NK Rudes in the Croatian second division in January 2016 as assistant manager before being appointed to take full charge that summer.

The former midfielder took charge for 36 games and lead the side to the title before switching to Olimpija Ljubljana of the Solvenian first division, a side Liverpool beat 3-0 in the Europa League first round in 2003.

Biscan led Ljubljana to the title and the Slovenian Cup in his first season before he was then appointed to manage Rijeka in the Croatian first division in 2018.

Last season he won the Croatian Cup with his side and is under contract there until 2022.

Markus Babbel

Babbel arrived at Anfield in June 2000, made 73 appearances for Liverpool and was an important part of the treble-winning side of 2001.

He joined Stuttgart in the Bundesliga as assistant manager in 2007 before taking on the full managerial role the following year.

The former right-back was in charge for 47 games before switching to Hertha Berlin in 2010 where he spent 55 matches at the helm and led the club to the German Second Tier title.

In 2012 he was appointed as Hoffenheim manager for 30 games and then was made director of football at the club in the same year.

2014 saw Babbel take charge at FC Luzern in the Swiss Super League, where he would stay for the next four years but 135 games he moved on again to Western Sydney where he currently manages in the Australian A-League and is contracted until 2021.

Abel Xavier

Xavier arrived from Everton in January 2002 and went on to make 21 appearances for the Reds before being sold to Galatasaray the same year.

He joined SC Olhanense as manager in July 2013 in the Portuguese third division but left three months later.

The former defender was appointed as manage of Farense in the second division of Portuguese football in December 2014 where he was in charge for 29 matches until June 2015 when Xavier made the switch to Desportivo Aves in July of that year but was sacked in September after a series of poor results.

He was appointed as the national head coach of Mozambique in 2016 where he currently remains.

Mauricio Pellegrino

Pellegrino made 13 appearances for Liverpool in 2006 under Rafa Benitez.

The Argentinian returned to Anfield as first-team coach in 2008 before moving to Inter Milan to rejoin Benitez two years later.

The former defender became Valencia manager in 2012 before returning to his homeland for managerial stints at Estudiantes and Independiente.

Pellegrino reunited with another former club CD Alaves for the 2016/17 season, guiding them to a first ever Copa del Rey final, where they were beaten 3-1 by Barcelona.

He became Southampton manager in the 2017/18 season but was sacked and moved to join Spanish Premier Liga side Leganes where he currently remains with a contract up until 2021.

Nigel Clough

Clough joined Liverpool in 1993, made 44 appearances overall and scored nine times before switching to Manchester City midway through the 1995/96 season.

The former attacking midfielder became Derby County's permanent manager in 2009 and was in charge for 233 matches until 2013 when he switched to Sheffield United.

He took charge of the Blades 104 before moving to former club Burton Albion in 2015 where he is currently still plying his trade in League One.

Nicolas Anelka

Anelka made 22 appearances at Liverpool and scored five goals on loan from Paris Saint-Germain in the 2001/02 season.

He is currently youth manager at Ligue 1 side Lille after being appointed in 2018.
