Alexander Isak's potential move to Liverpool will be front and centre on deadline day and Dietmar Hamann is confident that the Newcastle striker will get his wish
Former Liverpool star Dietmar Hamann admits he'd be "surprised if Alexander Isak wasn't going" to Anfield as the Newcastle frontman pushes for a move away on deadline day.
The Swede has made it clear he wants to leave St James' Park and the expectation is that he will join the Reds if his wish is granted. Isak has proven himself to be among the best strikers in Europe and wants to seek pastures new despite Newcastle's frustration.
Isak has been crucial to the Magpies' recent rise and scored against Liverpool as Eddie Howe's side won the Carabao Cup at Wembley. Now he could aid the ambitions at Anfield with Liverpool already seeing a £110million bid rejected.
Newcastle had claimed Isak would not be sold, but earlier this week they completed a deal to sign Stuttgart frontman Nick Woltemade for £69m. Hamann now believes that having the German striker in the building will open the door to Isak's exit.
He told Adventure Gamers: "What does it mean for Isak? I think he’ll join Liverpool. I'd be surprised if he wasn't going. There’s talk about him being brought back into the Newcastle squad, becoming reintegrated but a lot has happened. I think he’ll end up at Liverpool."
Isak would bolster an impressive Liverpool frontline, but one that has seen a major overhaul this summer. Mohamed Salah remains the star name with Hugo Ekitike joining from Frankfurt for £79m. Cody Gakpo is also among the options at Anfield.
Darwin Nunez and Luis Diaz have both left though, which has helped to offset some of Liverpool's summer business. There was also the tragic loss of Diogo Jota, leaving Arne Slot light in the final third and the Dutch coach made it clear he wanted to add more firepower.
Hamann meanwhile is surprised that Newcastle have invested so heavily in Woltemade, who has only just begun finding the net regularly in recent months.
He said: "Nick Woltemade is a good player but Bayern Munich bid €60million and I thought that was too much. Now Newcastle will pay up to €90million He's 23. He’s had 6 months where he’s shown he's a very good player but it's far too much money.
"He has never played in the Champions League as he was not included in Stuttgart’s Champions League squad last season so it's a bit of a trip into the unknown."

The Arabs don't need money to buy players. I think they will do exactly what they did to Mbape. He should brace up and do another season with Newcastle before leaving.

The PIF does not need money and won’t surrender to Isak. Now that they have Woltemade they don’t need to sell him at all. They may still even pick up Wissa just to ram it down Isak’s throat. I believe he’s going nowhere………literally and figuratively!
