Newcastle could make a January move for former loanee Jetro Willems after the left back turned down a new deal at Eintracht Frankfurt, according to reports.
The left back spent the 2019-2020 campaign with Steve Bruce's side but ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament in January and he has not played a competitive game since.
Willems will become a free agent at the end of the season, meaning he can sign a pre-contract agreement with another European club in January. Chronicle Live report he is open to a return to the Magpies after rejecting a new deal with the Bundesliga side.
The 26-year-old's agent, Sigi Lens, told the outlet: 'Jetro felt very comfortable at Newcastle and he said he felt like it was home, so of course he would be happy to go back if the chance came up.
'It is a great club and he had a great time in England. Newcastle were very good after the injury so it is something he would be happy with if the opportunity came up.
'He is fully fit now and ready to play.'
The Dutch international scored two goals and made two assists in 19 Premier League games last season.
One of his most memorable moments in a Newcastle shirt was a sensational strike against Liverpool at Anfield, which was voted as the club's goal of the season.
The Magpies signed Jamal Lewis from Norwich in the summer and the 22-year-old has been Bruce's first choice left back with 11 appearances in all competitions.
Willems has continued to interact with Newcastle on social media and posted a picture of him watching their defeat against Southampton on Twitter in November.
The defender looks to be back to his best after a long lay off with videos on his social media accounts showing him scoring and pulling off a number of skills in training.
