Former Manchester United pair Ben Foster and Tom Cleverley have stated they think neither Cristiano Ronaldo nor Wayne Rooney was the best player at the club during their time at Old Trafford.

Instead the current Watford stars agreed that Paul Scholes was the United master.
Foster was largely United's back up goalkeeper for five years before leaving in 2010, while Cleverley came up through the club's ranks before spending a decade of his senior years at Old Trafford prior to the midfielder's 2015 departure.

Speaking to the 'Squeaky Bum Time' podcast, the duo were left in awe at the ability of Scholes above anyone else at United.
'He's the best player I've ever seen live,' Foster said. 'Yep [above Cristiano Ronaldo]. He was effortless, everything just came so naturally to him.
'Striking a ball, if you could see him strike a ball, he didn't miss any part of the ball, it was all full, 100 per cent contact with the ball. He was beautiful, he was a beautiful player to watch.'
Rooney and Ronaldo's attacking partnership devastated Premier League defences and was key to helping United win the Premier League title three years running up to 2009, as well as the Champions League the year before.
Ronaldo then left for Real Madrid in a then world record Β£80million transfer and has since consistently been regarded as one of the world's best players.
However, Cleverley backed Foster in praise of Scholes who spent his entire career at Old Trafford between 1993 and 2013.
Cleverley added: 'He was just two or three steps ahead of everything. He would never misplace a pass, he would just mentally torture you in the middle of the park.
'You'd think you were closing him down and he'd just zip it round the corner. And to add to that he was the best striker of a football I've ever, ever seen, and I ever will see.
'He tortured me a few times in training and he was the master to learn from really.'

Don't have to be a top player to win titles in a team sport, not saying he is not one though.
