An old tweet from ex-Valencia captain David Albelda has surfaced in which he said he hoped old boss Ronald Koeman would one day become Barcelona manager so that LaLiga would be more equal.

Koeman is now in charge at the Nou Camp with his side set to host Albelda's former club on Saturday afternoon.

And the tweet from 2014 has gone viral ahead of the game.

'Today I see people talking about Koeman,' it reads. 'Hopefully one day he coaches Barcelona so the league will be more equal.'

Koeman had an unsuccessful six-month spell at Valencia between 2007 and 2008 and clearly Albelda did not enjoy his tenure.

The former Spain midfielder's hope seems to be becoming a reality so far with Barca sitting fifth in the table.

Koeman discussed his ill-fated time at the Mestalla in his pre-match press conference, admitting he doesn't have the fondest memories.

'I know that some former players are commentators, each one is looking for a life,' he said. 'It is not the best memory of my career. I had to make decisions, I can make mistakes like anyone else.

'It is a complicated place; in 15 years they have had many changes of coach. And it seems that sometimes there is a lack of tranquility in the environment to work calmly'.
