FA to review rule that sees players banned for two bookings in FA Cup

The Football Association will review the new rule that sees players suspended for picking up two yellow cards in the FA Cup.

The automatic one-game ban for two bookings was only brought in this season but Sportsmail understands the governing body are aware of concerns over the fairness of the change.

Barnet, for example, will be without star midfielder Charlee Adams when they entertain Brentford in the fourth round of the competition live on television.

The 23-year-old was booked in their first-round replay against Bristol Rovers back in November before picking up another caution in the 1-0 win at Sheffield United in the third round earlier this month.

That means Adams will miss what could be the National League side's biggest game of the season against Championship opposition.

Barnet chairman Tony Kleanthous has made the point to the FA that lower-league sides are at a disadvantage as they play more games than Premier League and Championship clubs earlier in the competition.

Brentford, meanwhile, beat Oxford United at the first time of asking in their third-round tie and so have no suspensions for the trip to The Hive Stadium a week on Monday.
