Despite finishing third in the Premier League and reaching the finals of both the Europa League and Carabao Cup, a large section of Chelsea fans are desperate to see the back of manager Maurizio Sarri this summer.
According to reports in Italy, the club are ready to install Derby boss and club legend Frank Lampard in his place - a decision which would be widely backed by the Stamford Bridge faithful.
Here, die-hard Chelsea fan Rory Jennings gives his thoughts on a decision that could be 'one of the most inspiring in the club's history'...
As a football fan for over a quarter of a century it's very rare that you experience a new feeling. Heartbreaks, glory, injustices, fortune, we have experienced it all countless times. However, last week something very odd happened, twice I felt a brand-new sensation.
I got goosebumps watching a game that didn't involve my team. That has certainly never happened before and simultaneously I found myself, a Chelsea fan, feeling very jealous of Derby County fans… that has also never happened before.
The reason, of course, is Chelsea's greatest ever player: Frank Lampard. Watching clips of Derby fans singing about Lampard 'being at the wheel', the clips from the dressing room as they ironically chant 'Stop Crying Frank Lampard', the huge bar tab that Lampard paid, Jody Morris' Instagram account (which was a treasure for 24 hours after that victory), Lampard obeying the chants of the Derby fans and starting the bounce... the list goes on and on and it was a joy to watch.
Now if you compare all that to what we currently have at the helm, you realise why the vast majority of the Stamford Bridge attendees are all so desperate for us to bid arrivederci to Maurizio Sarri.
In an era when the chasm between football supporters and the clubs themselves has never felt bigger, Derby have someone who bridges the gap. He empathises with the fans and, crucially, fans can relate to him.
Conversely, we have a man who couldn't be bothered to watch our youngest prospect make his England debut, a man who has absolutely no interest in engaging or connecting with the supporters and a man who treats one of our best servants over the past seven years with utter disdain.
As a result, the atmosphere around the club is poisonous. Frank Lampard would immediately change all that. If he was given the chance to lead us, all Chelsea fans would be over the moon. Frank fully understands the club and to have a Chelsea man in charge of the club again is exactly what we need.
He's a proven winner who got himself to being the second best footballer in the world behind Ronaldinho through nothing but sheer hard work. We sing about him every game. We love him. And he loves us.
It would be so refreshing to have our greatest ever player in charge of our team, reinforced by Jody Morris, a man who grew up in the shadow of Stamford Bridge and went on to play over 100 games for the club.
Any reservation that people have about him being a relatively new to management aren't legitimate for me. Sarri has been a manager for 30 years and has won nothing so we know all too well that 'experience' doesn't always mean competency.
When Ruud Gullit took over, he had no experience and won us our first trophy in 26 years. Gianluca Vialli then took the reins, he too had no experience and won a huge haul of trophies including the FA Cup, the League Cup, the Cup Winners Cup and the Super Cup.
Roberto Di Matteo also had no experience and gave us the most glorious night in our history, so Lampard coming in? One thing for sure is it won't be worse than what we have had to put up with this season but it could also be an appointment that is one of the most inspiring in the club's history. Never have we needed it more.

Sarri deserves 2nd chance !! Why chelsea is very much eager to sack manager early?? We had some ups and downs between the seasons but sarri got the job done. He qualified us for champions league and 2 finals. Not bad with average players. The one thing that i don't like about sarri is the position of kante but hoping that jorginho will step up next season. #sarri deserves 2nd chance!!

United made a big mistake by putting OGS as manager. Chelsea can't afford an apprentice manger. With a looming transfer ban, what can Lampard achieve without Hazard?

Leave Sarri alone,, the Man deserves a second season in charge... he has done what's ask of him!!! that's take this team with so many average players to the Champions League?
Givemecosta That guy saying that Sarri has taken chelsea to champions league with average players, My question is; Is Hazard an average player? Is Kante an average player? Is Kepa an average player?? My Brother if you feel that Sarri is good for you, take him to your team plz!! Chelsea is big club not like Arsenal and others.. Chelsea Is a Club of Winners not a club of giving Old Sturbbon Men chances....

I am a Chelsea fan and I think Lampard would be a good manager than sarri because we want a coach who have played for Chelsea and respect the club and we are happy because we came 3rd but not happy by sarri because he won points not hearts and I think that poisonous Lampard can remove because everyone loves him and his a legend for us

majority of the ultra British Chelsea fans & the Chelsea board have always been ungrateful, entitled lads since abromovich bought chelsea, they hate foreign coaches, with a passion, sarri has done way better than any coach could have with the current crop of players his stubbornness in changing style comes from what he has observed from the group, lampard is not yet ready to handle Chelsea,
agreed....say no more.

This is not a good idea at all, being Chelsea Coach, he have to start with U23 or U19 before coming into the senior team, this idea of being the Head Coach next season is not supported,

Lampard is one of our few legends but let’s not make the same mistake United made, give the man a second chance, Lampard is still in the process of learning.... Yes I agree there were coaches who had no experience but you can also agree with me football has changed over time
I agree with you bruh but you will also agree with me Sarri has done a good job with these kind of players, remember we don’t even have a good stricter.... He has been able to take us to the UEL finals and also helped us get to CL, let’s rally behind him and give him a chance

would you have said the same when zizou came to Madrid's bench just as a legend and very little experience to steer Real to three consecutive champions league victories. Ole is not the only legend that came back. so many others did and excelled.

This would be the greatest moments for him and the club and the most winners could be the Chelsea academy produced players and a few quality international players who really deserve downing the famous royal blue shirt. Once more we may be seeing the really old Chelsea emerging from the ashes to trouble the English FA bosses with its winning ways in the premier league and Europe in general. All we need is an inspirational coach who would make all players feel equally good and competitive again and feel that those picked up ahead of others really deserved the call that that they are liked and favored by the coach. That rotten atmosphere should be removed and then be cleaned away. Nothing kills the spirit of players than having a manager who clearly favours foreign players in the expense of locals who are the rightful owners of the club and who will even play better than those players favoured by their manager. Super frank played with the greatest foreign internationals and he will continue doing that in this case he will bring them in and those who deserve to play will be picked ahead of the rest. That is what we want and that is the kind of atmosphere we want back into our club.

Am a pure fan of a Chelsea, one important thing is that a coach who does not touch a ball, what is the meaning of this if ur team is under loss and u are the one behind instead of he to take the ball he will not do it will look at the saa and even don't even want to give the Youngs playing tym, someone one lyk giroud and higuan their all old we shun bring new striker okay.... He also lyks old players too much... What coach is this Koraa, although he has done well for us but we want Lampard 🙏🙏🙏
yes you want him at derby as you are a derby fan 😁
