FIFA 20 simulation: What could have happened when Man City vs Liverpool

With no football to look forward to this weekend, due to the coronavirus pandemic, you won't need me to tell you that Liverpool were due to play Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday, in what could have been an epic clash.

Despite Liverpool being clear at the top of the Premier League table, and City having little to no hope of catching them at this stage, this postponed clash could still have been brilliant to watch, as the best two teams in the country lock horns.

But just because this game can't happen, it doesn't mean we can't simulate the game in the virtual world to see what could have happened.

So, we used FIFA 20 to see what could have happened in the game between Man City and Liverpool in the Premier League on Sunday. This is what happened.

To set up this simulation, we used kick-off mode within FIFA 20 but didn't select a team to control. We then selected the teams and watched the match play out by itself, to give us a unique prediction.

The AI difficulty was set to legendary, with the line-up updated with the latest transfers, injuries and suspensions, to make the simulation as realistic as possible.

We predict that Manchester City could set up in a 4-3-3 formation, with their line-up as follows; Ederson; Walker, Stones, Fernandinho, Mendy; Rodri, De Bruyne, D Silva; Mahrez, Aguero, Sterling.

We predict that Liverpool could set up in a 4-3-3 formation, with the line-up as follows; Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Gomez, Van Dijk, Robertson; Wijnaldum, Fabinho, Henderson; Mane, Firmino, Salah.

FIFA 20 predicts that this would have been a brilliant game for neutral fans to watch, with one of the teams launching an incredible fightback to claim the three points.

The first-half was dominated by Manchester City, as Pep Guardiola's side controlled the game with possession, with Liverpool unable to get out of their half.

And, in the 21st minute, City took a deserved lead. After Raheem Sterling had moved inside the ball from the left, he fed the ball into the path of Kevin De Bruyne, who took a touch before firing an unstoppable shot into Alisson's near post.

Liverpool would have to come from behind if they were to get anything from this game.

In the second-half, City dominated to an even greater extent than they had in the first-half, as Guardiola's side were looking to see how the game using possession as a defensive tactic.

But, with just 23 minutes to go, two bits of world class quality got Liverpool back on level terms.

Trent Alexander-Arnold recovered the ball from Sterling, surged up the right-hand side of the pitch, before curling a lovely pass around Fernandinho and into the path of Salah, who ran clear and curled the ball past Ederson.

An incredible goal.

This changed the entire complexion of the game, with City now pushing forwards, but the Reds were looking lethal on the break.

With 11 minutes to go, Jurgen Klopp's side completed an incredible comeback, with Roberto Firmino scoring a brilliant goal.

The Brazilian played a one-two with Gini Wijnaldum, with the Dutch midfielder releasing Firmino in behind Stones. The Reds striker didn't even take a touch, firing home with his left foot first time.

Liverpool had done it, and that's how the score remained.
