On October 9, Beijing Time, FIFA released the monitoring results of its Social Media Protection Service for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The number of social media posts containing abusive content increased 11-fold compared to 2022, and the number of comments hidden by moderation mechanisms increased 19-fold compared to 2022.

Total AI scans: 17.1 million posts analyzed, with 477,000 posts flagged by AI for review.
240,000 posts were confirmed to contain abusive content, an 11-fold increase from the 2022 FIFA World Cup (19,600 posts in 2022).
Of the 240,000 confirmed abusive posts, 20% contained racist abuse.
2,900 accounts were escalated for investigation after manual review, and 786 accounts were referred to law enforcement.
9.2 million comments were hidden by moderation mechanisms, including spam, a 19-fold increase from the 2022 FIFA World Cup (471,000 comments in 2022).
