World Cup 2022 was in news for its brilliant games on the field as well as controversies regarding the host nation, Qatar, that marred the tournament with criticism coming from various quarters towards the treatment of migrant workers by Qatar and their stance on LGBTQ+.

Caught amidst the controversy was FIFA President Gianni Infantino who has been accused of taking money from the Qatar authorities to let them host the tournament recently the criticism has gone to a whole new level as a controversial statue showcasing Infantino was revealed in the German city, Frankfurt.

Gianni Infantino has previously defended Qatar for how it hosted the World Cup and has called the western countries hypocrites for accusing the country of human rights violations while they have been doing it for centuries.

He said: “This moral lesson-giving — one-sided — is just hypocrisy. I don’t want to give you any lessons of life, but what is going on here is profoundly, profoundly unjust. For what we Europeans have been doing for the last 3,000 years we should apologize for the next 3,000 years before starting giving moral lessons to people.”

Gianni referred to the tournament as one of the best as it saw several underdogs upsetting favorites with the biggest of them being Morocco’s run to the semi-finals. The tournament had a thrilling end in one of the, if not the best World Cup ever after Argentina defeated France on penalties as Lionel Messi lifted the World Cup.
