A cheese hotdog being sold for £7.50 outside Manchester United's Old Trafford has been blasted as 'pathetic' and 'shameful' on social media.

The fast food item sent fans into a frenzy after a picture showed a plain hotdog sitting on a small pile of grated cheese inside an untoasted bun.

The no-frills hotdog infuriated fans further when discovering that it would set punters back £7.50 – and that's without chips as a side dish.

The post by Twitter account Footy Scran has been viewed more that two million times and people have not held back in what they think of the concession.

One Twitter user labelled the cheese hotdog as 'criminal' while another said that it  may be 'the most pathetic concession' they've ever seen.

One Twitter used called the picture 'horrifying' while another joked that 'the tray looks more appetising'.

One even went as far to claim that Fyre festival – the fraudulent music festival that was housed on the Bahamian island of Great Exuma in 2017 – even 'had better food' than this.

In another chastening blow, one fan labelled the hotdog as 'shameful and beyond belief' while giving it a one out of nine rating.

Specsavers' Twitter account also couldn't resist a dig, claiming the hotdog had 'too much cheese' on it.
