Fans have bemoaned Harry Maguire's mistake which gifted Sevilla an early goal in their Europa League quarter-final second leg clash.
The England centre-back was caught unaware by a Sevilla player, which allowed Youssef En-Nesyri to tuck the ball home from close range and give them the lead.
Maguire was not the only one who came under criticism for the goal, with David de Gea also being lambasted for his pass that lead to the mistake.
The incident occurred in the eighth minute of the match in Spain, with the aggregate score tied at 2-2, when de Gea attempted to play out from his penalty box.
He fired a ball into the feet of the England centre-back but he was quickly pounced upon by three Sevilla players, before El-Nesyri eventually lashed it home.
Fans immediately flocked onto social media to express their opinion on the incident and they did not hold back in their brutal opinions.
Famous internet personality Mark Goldbridge wrote: 'That's on Maguire for me. De Gea plays a ball that's not easy but it's what you do if you're playing out from the back. He's got plenty of options Harry and completely miskicks it.'
However, a lot of United fans argued that the England centre-back was helpless in the situation and that the Spanish goalkeeper should have done more to help.
'Maguire’s going to get the majority of the blame for that but why the hell is De Gea passing it to him when he’s got 3 Sevilla players on him. Wan-Bissaka was free out on the right,' another said.
One user wrote: 'David de Gea the complete goalkeeper and his shocking decision making, imagine passing someone whose marked by 2 people. Watch people only blame Maguire though, it's Brentford all over again,' one fan said.
'Reminiscent of De Gea to Eriksen at Brentford. De Gea hasn't helped Maguire there but there's zero awareness of what's going on,' one user noted.
Another wrote: 'Even though Maguire demands the ball, De Gea should know that Maguire hasn’t got the skill set to turn out of that situation. If it’s Martinez, he probably gets out of that with possession because he’s so good under pressure. Would need to rewatch but think the pass to AWB was on'.
Robbie Savage, who was on co-commentary duty for BT Sport, seemed to agree with the notions that it was de Gea's fault for the goal.
'United trying to play out the back. Maguire could do better, but why does David de Gea not put the ball out to Wan-Bissaka?' he said.
'The centre-half is in the middle of a triangle with three players all closing him down. Yes it's Maguire's mistake but de Gea's surely go to play the ball to Wan-Bissaka. Very poor.'
The early goal put United at an instant disadvantage in the match and left them the task of overturning the deficit in order to progress to the semi-finals.

So of you are saying its De Gea mistake but its not. A good defender should know when to play to safety and clear the ball from danger. Look at the replay, Maguire was the one who demanded for the ball 😂😂
