Fans call for Utd to bring Depay back after Lyon star wears classic Utd shirt

Manchester United fans have called for the club to bring Memphis Depay back to Old Trafford after he was pictured wearing a classic United jersey.

Memphis joined United amid much fanfare for £30.6million from PSV Eindhoven in 2015, with a reputation as one of football's most exciting prospects and was handed the iconic No.7 jersey upon his arrival.

However, the Dutchman struggled to live up to the hype in Manchester, only managing to contribute seven goals and six assists in 53 appearances.

After just 18 months Memphis was sold to French side Lyon for a cut-price fee where has since gone on to realise his potential and develop into a quality forward.

The 26-year-old has even been made Lyon captain, proving how much he has grown as a player and a person since departing Manchester.

Despite the sour end to his time at United, Memphis - who's currently injured - has remained on good terms with the club and sent fans into a frenzy when he was photoed wearing a retro shirt.

Many supporters have taken it as a message that he still loves the club and that he should be brought back to have another opportunity.

United are on the hunt for a new forward in the summer but despite Memphis' vast improvement, he is expected to be out of action until at least July after suffering a ruptured cruciate ligament - making any potential move extremely unlikely even if United were interested.

Instead, the club are targeting Borussia Dortmund star Jadon Sancho.
