Tottenham defender Toby Alderweireld earned a huge amount of respect for consoling his former Southampton team-mate Dusan Tadic after Spurs' victory over Ajax on Wednesday.

Most Tottenham players ran around celebrating after the final whistle but Alderweireld went over to Tadic to check on the distraught midfielder.

One person compared Alderweireld's moment with Tadic to when England cricketer Freddie Flintoff comforted Australian Brett Lee in the 2005 Ashes series.

They said: 'Its like Freddie Flintoff with Brett Lee in 2005. These are the really beautiful moments of sport.'

Another person added: 'I don't even support Spurs but I'd much rather them win that final!

'Alderweireld comforting Tadic at the final whistle & then [Mauricio] Pochettino completely shocked and crying had even me emotional!'

The praise continued as one said: 'Shows the humility, humanity and class of a person when your reaction is to console your defeated opponent in the midst of utter joy for yourself. Beautiful.'

Someone else simply summed up the moment in one word as they said: 'Class.'

Mauricio Pochettino's side lost the first leg 1-0 before finding themselves 2-0 down at half-time at the Johan Cruyff Arena.

Then Moura went on to score a hat-trick in the second half as the north London club won the match 3-2 on the night.
