There's no doubting the legendary status of Brazilian footballer Ronaldinho, and on March 8, 2005 he scored one of his most famous goals.

Compared to most of his astounding strikes, the one he scored for Barcelona against Chelsea in the Champions League seems quite simple, but fans still remember it to this day for its brilliance.

Picking up the ball outside the penalty area surrounded by Chelsea shirts, he stopped it dead  before taking a surprise shot which sailed into the back of the net.

'The most stylish toe-bash ever scored,' said one Twitter user.

It appeared Ronaldinho would be swamped by defenders, but somehow managed to score from range off the toe of his boot without a run up, and with just a short back lift of his foot.

Chelsea's keeper at the time, Petr Cech, stood motionless as the ball whipped past him into the corner, prompting another social media user to say 'no keeper in the world could ever stop this.'

Although Ronaldinho may have scored some spectacular goals throughout his career, fans have praised the originality and imagination behind this particular strike.

One said: 'Have had arguments with friends who don’t rate this as high as various bicycle kicks or long range strikes. The inescapable fact is there has never been another goal scored like this.'

Another simply commented: 'I could watch this all day!' While another reflected on Ronaldinho as as 'magical player.'

Ronaldinho spent most of his career at Barcelona, but also had stints at PSG and Milan among other teams. He was influential for his country too, competing at two World Cups, and winning one of them in 2002.

England fans won't look back on that tournament without remembering the 40 yard free kick he scored against them, just another special moment in an excellent career.
