Fans hit out at Man United star for his 'selfish' behaviour in Real Betis clash

Manchester United winger Antony has been slammed by fans for wasting a huge chance after he opted to shoot rather than pass to any of his three teammates with the goal at their mercy during his side's Europa League clash with Real Betis.

The incident occurred in the second half with United leading 3-1 following goals from Antony and Bruno Fernandes after Ayoze Perez cancelled out Marcus Rashford's opener in the first half.

Antony was played through on goal and only had former Manchester City goalkeeper Claudio Bravo to beat, while he also had Fred, Wout Weghorst and Rashford to his left waiting for a tap-in.

But the Brazilian forward inexplicably went for goal himself and put his effort over the bar. His teammates were left bemused as to why he hadn't set them up for an easy goal, and they weren't the only ones frustrated by Antony's decision-making.

'Antony is so greedy that’s an easy goal if u pass to your teammate there,' one fan claimed on Twitter.

Another supporter was equally annoyed, insisting that Antony had cost the team a certain goal.

'Antony too selfish. Had he squared that pass to Fred or Wout, they would have scored,' they wrote.

Antony was also criticised for always going for the same finish with his shooting rather than looking to find his teammates in better positions.

'Antony should learn how to pass, square play and assist and not to be looking for finesse everytime,' a fan posted on social media.

Meanwhile, one fan was even more blunt as they simply wrote: 'Just pass the damn ball bro.'

United did mange to get a fourth goal in the end through Weghorst, and will travel to Spain with a three-goal advantage for the second leg next week.

Erik ten Hag's men delivered the perfect response after their humiliating defeat at Anfield last Sunday, but it appears Antony still has more to do to convince supporters that he can become a star at Old Trafford.
