Fans mock Ramos' attire as the suspended skipper watches side lose against City

Supporters took to social media to compare Sergio Ramos' outfit to that of the First Dates' bartender as the suspended centre-back saw Real Madrid suffer Champions League last-16 defeat by Manchester City.

Already 2-1 down from the first leg, two Raphael Varane errors - either side of Karim Benzema's header - ensured a first-ever knockout defeat as manager for Los Blancos boss Zinedine Zidane in the absence of his influential skipper.

To rub salt into the wound, Ramos, who spent the game cajoling and instructing his team-mates from the stands, also found himself the subject of many jokes for his outfit, which included a black waistcoat, white dress shirt and tie.

Another Twitter user compared Ramos to a Peaky Blinders character, while one felt the Spain international 'looks like he'd make you an incredible Old Fashioned'.

Even budget airline Ryanair saw the funny side of Ramos' look, claiming 'We're signing Sergio Ramos up as our new onboard hipster barista for your coffee.'

Having been ruled out of the game, Ramos was powerless as his usual centre-back partner Varane first allowed Gabriel Jesus to steal the ball to set up Raheem Sterling and then misjudged a header back to keeper Thibaut Courtois for Jesus to score.

Ramos had been hoping to lead Madrid to his fifth Champions League title and, at 34, potentially his last after a career that has also seen him win the World Cup, European Championship and 170 caps for Spain.

He had been instrumental in guiding Real Madrid to the La Liga title this season, scoring several crucial goals as they overhauled rivals Barcelona for top spot.
