Fans of Liverpool and Manchester City have reacted on social media after the two Premier League giants were drawn to play in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup.
Pep Guardiola's side will host the team they narrowly pipped to the Premier League title by one point last season, at the Etihad, just days after the World Cup final.
Heavily rotated sides will be expected for the clash, though big-name players including Erling Haaland and Mohamed Salah could feature as they won't be involved in Qatar.
Liverpool fans were quick to point that it was the second tricky draw they have received this week, after they were also placed against Real Madrid in the last-16 of the Champions League.
One supporter commented: 'I don't know what did we do to deserve this? Real Madrid in UCL and Man City in Carabao Cup? Are you kidding me?'
Another fan posted a meme of a tiger looking shocked, while wearing Jurgen Klopp's hat and glasses, with the caption: 'Real Madrid in Champions League and Man City away in the Carabao as soon as we come back from the World Cup...'
Another Reds fan pointed out what has been a very interesting week for the club, with owners Fenway Sports Group looking to put the club up for sale.
They wrote: 'This has been one of the longest weeks in Liverpool history. Real Madrid draw on Monday, FSG put the club up for sale, draw vs Man City in the Carabao (and) we still have the game vs Southampton.'
Another Twitter used described it as 'not a great week' for draws involving the Reds.
While one described the fourth round clash as a game between Liverpool's kids and 'City's backups who are all elite'.
Some Liverpool fans have confidence though with one saying a 'Ben Doak masterclass' will happen at the Etihad.
The 17-year-old from Scotland made his debut in Liverpool's penalty shootout win over Derby on Wednesday.
In a reply, another Reds fan said: 'The beauty is, most of their squad will be at the World Cup, whereas ours aren't, so prob the perfect draw for us.'
Manchester City fans meanwhile were quick to make light of the fact that this is their second difficult draw in a row.
In past seasons, fans of other clubs have suggested City have had easier runs in cup competitions, though their clash with Liverpool follows a victory over fellow Premier League giants Chelsea.
One City fan wrote: 'First Chelsea and now Liverpool... yeah that's fun I guess.'
Another supporter commented that while it's straight after the World Cup final, 'at least Haaland will be fresh'.
One user joked at Liverpool's expense: 'I suppose it is true City always draws easy opponents.'
Fans of other clubs were delighted at the draw which means that one of the Premier League's 'Big Six' will crash out in the next round.
An Arsenal fan account were particularly happy as they wrote: 'Amazing draw for us. Piles more pressure on their squads at what will be a crucial time of the season. Fitness and injuries will be a real concern. Everything is falling into place for us.'
The titanic clash will be played on either December 21 or 22, days before the Premier League season resumes on Boxing Day after the World Cup.
Though City pipped Liverpool to the title last season, the Reds have had the edge in recent matches.
Liverpool knocked City out of the FA Cup semi-finals last season in a tournament they won, before again beating them in the Community Shield and 1-0 when the sides met last month at Anfield in the Premier League.
