Tottenham fans couldn't believe that Mauricio Pochettino brought Harry Kane on the pitch with their club already 6-0 up against Tranmere in the FA Cup.
The Spurs striker, who has scored 14 league goals, is the joint Premier League top scorer this season with Arsenal's Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
The reason why the decision was so bizarre to Tottenham fans is that Son Heung-Min, who often plays up front alongside Kane or as his replacement, is going to the Asia Cup on January 13.
The South Korea international could miss up to five league and cup matches during that time.
An injury to Kane would leave just Fernando Llorente as the only senior striker available with Vincent Janssen likely to be sold this month.
Llorente, in fact, managed to score a hat-trick against Tranmere on Friday night.
It was 0-0 at 40 minutes until Serge Aurier hit a 25-yard shot that deflected off Emmanuel Monthe before swerving into the top corner.
Llorente's first goal was the first of three in nine minutes for Spurs at the start of the second half with Aurier slotting in his second and Son scoring with a solo run from deep.
Kane did at least score off the bench when he added the seventh in the 82nd minute with a chip over Scott Davies from inside the penalty area.
One Spurs fan said: 'This is the most ridiculous and reckless decision I’ve ever seen.'
While another added said 'Why on earth is Harry Kane coming on?' with a laughing emoji.

Poch knows what he's doing better than anyone who likes to criticize him this way. As he said after the game, a player is at risk or injury anytime be it on the training ground or in a game. That's the nature of football. He subbed Kane on out of respect for the sell-out crowd at Tranmere who paid money hoping to see many of the top players like Kane, Ali, Son and others. That memory for kids at the game will be something in years to come they will always remember. Classy move by Poch.
