Fans have not taken Pep Guardiola's recent comments about the Carabao Cup too well on social media, after the Manchester City boss revealed he was told 'nobody cares' when he first arrived.
Liverpool lifted a 10th league cup title on Sunday at Wembley, after a second meeting with Chelsea in the final in three years saw the Reds once again come out on top.
After seeing a goal ruled out in normal time for offside, Virgil van Dijk stepped up when called upon to head home the winner in the 118th minute of the game and sink Chelsea's hopes.
The victory has since been described as one of Jurgen Klopp's best ever given the context of his side missing almost an entire XI of senior stars, and still seeing off a side assembled for around £1billion.
However, in a press conference following the final, Guardiola has since claimed that the tournament seems to have gained acclaim in the years since he has arrived, suggesting that it now looks like 'the final of a different competition'.
'I remember when I arrived, Brian Kidd told me: "The Carabao Cup, don't pay attention, play the young players, nobody cares",' Guardiola revealed on Monday.
'Sir Alex Ferguson was always: "It doesn't matter". I don't know what happened in these last years, looks like the final of a different competition. It's the truth!'
Since his arrival, Guardiola has won four Carabao Cups in seven years, more than any other manager.
Yet fans were quick to jump on the Spanish manager's comments, claiming that he was 'insecure' following the Reds' triumph.
One wrote: 'City’s insecurity holds no bounds. They’ve literally won it all in the last year yet feel the need to cry about absolutely everything that we do, as deep down they know that nobody gives a toss what they win because it’s hollow and ultimately built on financial doping.'
Another added: 'This motherf***er is the most salty man in whole of football…'
A third claimed: 'They’re so insecure from top to bottom right into the stands, just say well done and keep it f***ing moving for f*** sake.'
A fourth wrote: 'It’s mad that the greatest manager in the world is this insecure.'
And fifth football fan claimed: 'We proper live in his head rent free.'
Liverpool are on course for what would be a truly unprecedented quadruple this season following their Wembley triumph.
They lead Man City in the Premier League by a point, and are still fighting in the FA Cup and Europa League.
Their league title bid could hit a massive stumbling block, however, when they host Man City on Sunday 10 March, with a defeat handing their foes the advantage, with Arsenal also only two points behind them.

I think Guardiola is right. When he arrived and started winning CARABAO Cup, some fans mocked for winning, not an important cup. What suddenly changed that both big and not too big clubs are struggling for it.

Actually Pep is telling the truth. How do u call a serial winner of the same trophy insecure just bcos a rival team/manager won it? When he won the same trophy, you guys didn't pay attention, but do so when another manager wins it? Double standards. It's like Messi and Ronaldo. Messi wins, then it's undeserved, rigged, no/lost value, but when Ronaldo wins, it's deserved, it's the best award, system is not rigged. It's funny how both Messi and Pep have the same critics/haters.
