James Ward-Prowse showed why he was a set-piece specialist, by scoring directly from a corner in West Ham's comeback win over Wolves.

Lucas Paqueta's penalty cancelled out Pablo Sarabia's first-half strike from the spot for the hosts, before Ward-Prowse put the Hammers in front after 85 minutes directly from a corner.

Fans online were stunned by the goal, with one hailing the 29-year-old England international as 'a cheat code'.

Another user of X (formerly Twitter) said: 'Unreal watching it curve in what a goal', while a third cheekily added: 'Count it as a free kick!'

Ward-Prowse was described as a 'Set piece robot!', with accompanying hammers emoticon, while another wrote: 'Thats a hole in 1 by JWP.'

When Ward-Prowse scored his stunning goal, the drama had only just started.

Wolves captain Max Kilman had a late equaliser ruled out by VAR to leave home players, staff and fans fuming.

The check found that Tawanda Chirewa was standing in an offside position and blocking Hammers goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski, meaning he was deemed to be interfering with play.

Sarabia’s 33rd-minute penalty had given Wolves the lead in a dominant first-half display, but Paqueta scored the equaliser from the spot with a little under 20 minutes of regulation time remaining.

The victory takes West Ham to seventh place in the Premier League table, equal on points with Manchester United, although Erik ten Hag's side have two games in hand.

David Moyes' Hammers now prepare for a Europa League trip to Bayer Leverkusen on Thursday night, before a home Premier League test against fellow Londoners Fulham.
