Ferdinand: Como made Man Utd look like a team that get into UCL by luck of the draw

After Manchester United suffered a crushing 4-1 away defeat to newcomers Como in the third round of the Champions League group stage, legendary Manchester United veteran Rio Ferdinand commented on his former club's performance.

Ferdinand stated:

Fabregas's Como made us look like a team that only made it into the Champions League by luck of the draw.

At times, Como played as if they had 12 men on the field.

Our attack was toothless, the whole team lacked movement, we couldn't implement a high press against Como at all, and we had no discernible patterns in possession.

A lot of credit must go to Fabregas and the way he built this team — you can clearly see he has deeply imprinted his tactical philosophy on this squad.

Everyone knows their responsibilities, whether with or without the ball, everyone is fully focused and perfectly coordinated.

They dared to pass the ball to teammates under pressure — an excellent display of extreme mutual trust.

But that can never be our excuse; our performance tonight was simply awful. We looked like a team completely devoid of confidence... there's so much we need to do to turn things around... and that's not even counting our injury problems!

The budget disparity between the two teams was absolutely not reflected in the difference in their strength on the pitch!
