Ferdinand and Scholes slam Pogba and Raiola after claiming his time at Manchester United was over

Rio Ferdinand and Paul Scholes have slammed Mino Raiola for his comments claiming Paul Pogba's career at Manchester United is over.

The Frenchman's agent dropped an untimely bombshell on the club on Monday by declaring that the World Cup winner wants to leave the club and urged the hierarchy to sell him in the summer.

The comments came just a day before United's critical Champions League fixture at RB Leipzig, with Pogba only making the bench as the club strive to gain the point they need to qualify from Group H.

And former United defender Ferdinand slammed the club for allowing Raiola - and Donny van de Beek's agent earlier this season due to the Ducthman's lack of game time - to criticise the club and believes former boss Sir Alex Ferguson's attitude towards Wayne Rooney in 2010 is the best policy.

'I think the timing is disgusting from an important player's agent. I am going to shift the focus more to Manchester United and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ed Woodward,' he told BT Sport.

'How are you allowing an agent to come in and talk like this? This isn't the first time, you nip it in the bud the first time he does it. This is not the first time Raiola has done this.

'I was at United when [Wayne] Rooney was talking about a contract and about moving to Chelsea, Sir Alex Ferguson straight away went 'listen, this won't happen again' and nipped it in the bud.

'A couple of days later Rooney signed a new deal. [Donny] Van de Beek doesn't play and his agent starts speaking in the media, how is that happening?

'United should not be waiting for a player to talk. They are being destabilised. The player controls the agent. Own that situation, you cannot allow this to happen,' he continued.

'That is disrespectful. It affects the club's outlook, the more Man United allow this to happen the more they allow that cloud over them to grow.'

Rooney announced his intention to leave the club in October 2010 but made a U-turn two days later to sign a new-five year contract.

Paul Scholes also criticised Raiola and Pogba for not dealing with the situation and believes the Frenchman must either tell his agent to stop his outbursts or sack him as his representative.

'I don't think the club have to respond to that,' Scholes said.

'Why give the agents the time of day? Paul Pogba is the problem, he pays this man to represent him, he represents him badly because Paul is a good lad.

'Everyone from the outside will think he is troublesome, he isn't. He has two options, tells him to shut up or sack him.

'Man United have enough on their plate. I don't think the team has been destabilised, it doesn't affect you. Get rid of both of them. If I was [Harry] Maguire I would take him to the side and tell him to talk to his agent and tell him to shut up.'
