Ferdinand warns Spurs not to get 'carried away' after Man United let slip lead

Rio Ferdinand has called for Tottenham not to get too carried away with their late equaliser against Manchester United, after the visitors allowed them back into the game despite a half-time lead.

The Red Devils raced to a 2-0 lead at the break after goals from Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford, as Spurs looked off the pace and in danger of a repeat of their humiliating 6-1 defeat at Newcastle.

But Pedro Porro scored just 10 minutes into the second half to spark a comeback, with Son Heung-min sealing a well-earned point late in the game.

However, former United defender Ferdinand was adamant that Erik ten Hag's side passed up an opportunity to take all three points, and lacked a ruthless edge on Thursday night.

'They shouldn't get too carried away, United let them off,' the ex-England star said on BT Sports. 'They had them on the ropes, if not one knee and didn't go for the jugular.'

United dominated the first half of the match, restricting their opponents to very little chances in the early stages of the game.

However, after the break Spurs came out firing and were far more persistent in the press, and managed to recover some control of the midfield - an area in which United reigned supreme in the first half.

The visitors quickly earned a flurry of corners, with Porro's well-taken strike from the edge of the box a just reward for a much-improved showing.

United were still in the game, though, and within a few minutes Bruno Fernandes left Fraser Forster's crossbar rattling after a brilliant piece of skill saw him break free inside the box.

The English goalkeeper reacted sharply to then deny Aaron Wan-Bissaka a follow up header and keep his side just a goal behind the Red Devils.

Tottenham then began to wrest control in the game away from the visitors and carve out further chances for an equaliser.

'It felt like a strange game,' added Jermaine Jenas. 'United felt like they could go and win it, or create an opportunity to win the game. I don't know if they got caught in their minds. They were way too exposed.'
