Fernandez casts doubt on Chelsea future in wake of Champions League exit

Enzo Fernandez is uncertain if he will be staying at Chelsea beyond this season.

Chelsea were beaten 3-0 by Paris Saint-Germain at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday, sealing an 8-2 aggregate defeat.

Fernandez played 60 minutes before he was replaced by Romeo Lavia.

After the match, the Argentine, who joined Chelsea from Benfica in 2023, cast doubt on his future with the Blues.

Asked if he would be at Chelsea next season, Fernandez said: "I don't know. My focus is here for now.

"We have eight Premier League matches to play and the FA Cup. Then, the World Cup coming up, so we'll see after that."

Fernandez, who is Chelsea's vice-captain, has both played (45) and started (40) the most games for the Blues in all competitions this season, not including the Club World Cup.

His 18 goal involvements ranks second in Chelsea's squad, behind Joao Pedro (24), while only the Brazilian (18) can better Fernandez's tally of 12 goals.

Fernandez has created a team-leading 75 chances, and has provided six assists, a joint-high along with Reece James, Pedro Neto and Joao Pedro.

Asked about Fernandez's comments, Chelsea coach Liam Rosenior said: "I haven't seen that.

"It's hard for me to speak on speculation after a game and I need to focus right now on the most important things, which is making sure we get a result against Everton on Saturday."

Chelsea could well be without defender Trevoh Chalobah for their trip to Everton.

The centre-back sustained an injury late on against PSG, and had to be taken off on a stretcher.

"I think he was really worried," said Rosenior.

"I've checked with the medical team, we'll obviously scan and assess him. We are hoping and praying that it's not as bad as we first feared."
