Flood of congratulations for Luka Modric after Ballon d'Or win

After Luka Modric was crowned the winner of the Ballon d'Or for 2018, social media was flooded by messages of congratulations.

Among the first were the Zidane brothers, Enzo and Luca, but they were soon joined by a wealth of other high profile figures.

"Each prize for a brother is deserved," posted Ivan Rakitic, rival at club level, but team-mate at international level.

Another man to congratulate him was former Real Madrid basketball player who is now shining in NBA, Luka Doncic.

His compatriot and great football fan Marko Popovic also joined in the congratulations with a message on Instagram.

Another person to post was Real Madrid basketballer Sergio Llull, who posted an image of Modric as a child and today.

The official account of the Champions League also posted their own tribute.

LaLiga Santander did not delay posting their own recognition either.

His team-mate Lucas Vazquez was also quick to show what he thought of his friend on and off the field.

Former team-mates like Mateo Kovacic also joined in with some nice words.

The Croatian national team also expressed their pride at a historic first victory for a player from their country.

Whilst others who have benefitted from his creativity, such as Karim Benzema joined in.

"Congratulations, Luka Modric! Your year has been absolutely incredible," he posted.

His captain Sergio Ramos also joined in the celebrations.

"Congratulations, mate!" another defender, Jesus Vallejo posted.

Another close friend of the number 10, Gareth Bale, added his own praise for his long-term companion.

Last but not least, Real Madrid did not waste the opportunity to pay homage to the midfielder.
