Nottingham Forest's proposed deal for Santiago Gimenez hit a hitch on Monday night after the 23-year-old expressed doubts about a move to the City Ground.

Gimenez wants to play in the Premier League but is unsure about committing to Forest and wants to consider his options further.

A handful of clubs are showing interest in the Mexico international as the window draws to a close this week.

After Forest had agreed a £29million deal, Gimenez was due to fly on Monday night from Rotterdam airport before talks were put on hold.

Chris Wood has started both games so far this season for Nuno Espirito Santo's side as Nottingham Forest drew 1-1 with Bournemouth and beat Southampton 1-0.

The New Zealander and Nigerian forward Taiwo Awoniyi have shared the responsibility of No 9 under Santo since his arrival at the City Ground, with former Watford star Emmanuel Dennis the other recognised centre forward within the manager's ranks.

The City Ground club, meanwhile, have also made a £20m proposal to Brentford for forward Yoane Wissa, who was also wanted by Wolves.

The Bees are keen for Wissa to sign a new deal amid Ivan Toney's expected departure to Saudi Arabia before the end of the week.

With Toney not included in either matchday squad for Brentford's matches against Crystal Palace and Liverpool, Wissa has started the first two matches of the season under Thomas Frank, who is also without new No 0 signing Igor Thiago through injury.

Finally, Forest are also considering a move for West Ham  midfielder James Ward-Prowse.

The former England international has seen his game time deplete in recent weeks following the summer arrival of defensive midfielder Guido Rodríguez, who has partnered Lucas Paqueta and Tomas Soucek in the Irons' engine room.
