Forgotten Arsenal player moves to Chinese second division after leaving Armenia

Arsene Wenger turned to a 21-year-old Frenchman in the final minute of Arsenal's 2-1 defeat to Swansea at the Liberty Stadium in November 2014.

Despite emerging with such promise, it would prove to be the final league appearance the rangy striker would make for the Gunners before a loan spell to Crystal Palace in the second-half of the campaign.

Further temporary moves to Ajax and Charlton followed before he left north London for Toulouse in 2017. The forward, now 31, has just completed a switch to Chinese second division side Qingdao Red Lions.

It's a far cry from his highs in the Premier League and there will be plenty of Gunners fans unable to remember Yaya Sanogo, owing to his brief spell in the limelight at the Emirates.

With the club, he managed to score one senior goal in 20 appearances in all competitions, with that strike coming in a 2-0 Champions League win against Borussia Dortmund.

Sadly for Sanogo, he failed to make the cut at Arsenal but he did find some joy with his move to Ligue 1. He netted seven times in 39 outings over the next two seasons before exiting the club in 2020.

He spent seven months as a free agent before joining Huddersfield in the Championship until the end of the 2020-21 campaign.

The Terriers decided not to extend his contract beyond the initial three months, leaving him without a side yet again before Armenian outfit Urartu ended a six-month exile.

Sanogo scored four times in 12 matches for the team before leaving by mutual consent at the end of January.

He has agreed to join the second-time Chinese side ahead of the start of their campaign this weekend.
