According to Sport1, former DFB president Theo Zwanziger has joined the ranks of those criticizing Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann.
He told the Abendzeitung München: "Julian Nagelsmann has failed to build a team. In my opinion, he clearly should not continue as Germany's national coach."
The 81-year-old former DFB president, who led the German Football Association from 2006 to 2012, also criticized the excessive expectations placed on the team. He said: "The team was not only overestimated by the head coach, but also by the entire sports management and the DFB presidential board. Setting the World Cup title as a goal is unrealistic."
Zwanziger welcomed Jürgen Klopp as a successor, but also believed that the former Liverpool manager could not immediately work miracles. He said: "We no longer have that many top players. Even if Jürgen Klopp comes now, he won't be able to solve all the problems. There's no doubt he would be the best candidate for the current situation, but there are still many problems with youth development."
