A former Manchester United coach that helped the club to several Premier League titles during Sir Alex Ferguson's reign at the club has blasted Erik ten Hag for making 'no progress'.
United's dreadful season took another turn for the worst on Monday evening as they slumped to a 4-0 defeat against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park - their heaviest of the season.
Erik ten Hag's position as Man United manager has never looked more precarious as the Red Devils slumped to eight in the Premier League table and pressure is mounting on the Dutchman.
New investor Sir Jim Ratcliffe is weighing up whether to make a change in the dugout at the end of the season and a former coach has been left outraged at United's performances this season.
Rene Meulensteen served under Sir Alex Ferguson during six years at Old Trafford between 2007-2013 and fumed there is 'no progress' being made at his former club.
Speaking to Dutch outlet NOS, he said: 'It is really incomprehensible what is happening now. There is simply no progress whatsoever.
'You know, as a new trainer you always have to deal with a selection that you have not put together yourself.
'So, it takes a few transfer periods before you get the players you want. I always say, a trainer needs 18 months to get it right, to get on track.
'But now there is none of that optimism left. There is no playing style, club culture or philosophy.
'If you look at the statistics it doesn't make any sense. Manchester United has a goal difference of minus three!,' he added.
Ten Hag worked wonders during his first 12 months in Manchester, winning the Carabao Cup, progressing to the FA Cup final and taking the club to 3rd in the English top-flight during his debut campaign.
However, the 54-year-old has endured a second miserable year at the club with United exiting the Champions League at the group stage and now set to miss out on qualifying for European competition next year.

ETH wants 15 players on field instead of 11. 2 goal keepers side by side. an imagine still a goal is conceded. his bench has 3 goalkeepers. that is his plan but the EPL is not agreeing to it. too much of training players play like training routines and forgot to play the game.

U call them legends (exclude carragher pls) And again this so called legends failed at being a coach or managing a team n were sacked...the problem is the management who went on to sign a doctor signed by arsenal for failing in his job n now he has continued dsame job at man utd. It has never happened in the history of the Premier league that man utd suffer well over 68 injuries in a single premier league season, even guardiola or klopp will struggle with putting a team together if they face that much many injuries. Remember last season Liverpool was beaten by many clubs n it looked like klopp would be sacked just because van dijk was injured in the beginning of the season n there's was a huge turnaround after he came back n that's how they got Europa league qualification because they started winning most of their games after he returned Arsenal were like an unstoppable train last season up until Saliba got injured n they ended up bottling the league with 9 games to go(leading with 9poins) n man city ended up winning that same league with 3 games to spare... Arteta used 4yrs to gather a team before it clicked n even he started the 4th season 2022/23 with fans displaying "Arteta out" sign every match but that same season it clicked but they bottled it with an injury to a key player in Saliba Even Man utd struggled n were dumped out of the Europa with injury to key center back Martinez n almost lost the 3rd spot on the league when he wasn't available. Conclusion: injury will hamper any teams progression n at the same time change the way a coach approaches each game.... Man utd legends talk like they know it all but they hav forgotten they were humiliated several times when sir Alex Ferguson was the coach, beaten n humbled by Barcelona twice in the final, the most memorable one was 3-1 when sir Alex's hand was shaking that he almost had a stroke on the sidelines, man city drubbing of 6-1, different heartbreaks in cup competitions by Coventry, Cardiff, Southampton n the list goes on... It wasn't always rosy for them in their days... They say no pattern of play but man utd's pattern of play has always been counter attack with pacy wingers under sir Alex, solkjaer, mourinho, Carrick, n even Ten hag, which means the legends r all hypocrites

man u owners are stupid how can you be with such a stupid coach
Man U owners are far from stupid. They just con Ratcliff for £1.2B without giving up much control. The club is still making ££££ and paying themselves ££££M in dividends.

You couldn't be more wrong bud. A playing style & culture is implemented through the club, filtering from Juniors up to Seniors for the meer fact that if you have injuries or players being unavailable, you have other players to step in and implement the playing style seamlessly. The difference with personal come in the form of their level of experience, technical ability and mentality. Any player in that squad should step in and know the playing style of the coach and club. Yes injuries have lessened the quality in the pitch but should not change the style of play. Ten Hag is failing in the game of "chess" = tactics.
You are right and the system is there that's why we have Garnacho, Mainoo, Kambalwa and from the academy getting game time. But not all cana step up and fill the quality left by the injured players it affects the style of play. with Shaw on the left the play would be different than having Bissaka. From the academy we don't have that quality to step up so the coach has to improvise unfortunately

This guy can only boast being a coach under sir Alex Ferguson. He faiked miserably as a head coach even got sacked by Indian Super league side for poor performance and has the guts to call for Ten Hag to be sacked. what playing style can be implemented without key players? of course u have to change to adapt Wich affects the playing style

no shit😡😡😡😡 by the way,Let FA fire the three idiots of pundits in Paul Scores , Michael Owen and Jamie Carrager who doesn't understand football and what their work suppose to go. how can they demand the suck of Eric Ten Hag when they clearly know that the club is not running well. How on Earth can a team hampered by more than 40 separate injuries in a single season 🤷🏽♂️🤷🏽♂️🤷🏽♂️🤷🏽♂️🤷🏽♂️ okay how🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️

There's no play style there at all. even if Man Utd sign Bellingham, Mbappe, Konate, Haaland, and De Bruyne .. without playing style, there will be no results at all.
