Former Real Madrid player Aurelio Campa dies aged 87

In further sad news, former Real Madrid player Aurelio Campa has died at the age of 87, with him being remembered strongly for his connection to Los Blancos.

He played as a defender and was a key part of the Real Madrid team that won two successive league championships in 1954 and 1955, he also won a Latin Cup with Los Merengues.

Having been born in the Spanish capital in 1933, Campa also represented Real Betis, CD Badajoz, Granada and Las Palmas.

Real Madrid published an official statement on their website to confirm the news on Sunday.

"Real Madrid, its president and the Board of Directors are deeply saddened by the death of Aurelio Campa, who was a player for our club during the 1953/54 and 1954/55 seasons," the statement read.

"Real Madrid would like to express their condolences and send their sympathy and support to his family and loved ones, a condolence that extends to all of madridismo."
