Former Reds star was fuming after teammate kept him up all night before debut

Stephen Warnock has revealed how a former Liverpool team-mate kept him awake all night before his full Premier League debut.

The incident occurred in August 2004 when Warnock was preparing to start against Bolton Wanderers. The academy graduate had already made cameo appearances against Tottenham and Manchester City earlier that season before Rafa Benitez gave him the nod for his full bow.

However, things didn't go to plan as Warnock told Undr the Cosh: "When I made my first start was the game where - I'll never forget this. I played away at Bolton, and it was [Xabi] Alonso and [Luis] Garcia's debuts as well. And Luis Garcia was in the team, and I roomed with him.

"He f***ing kept me up all night. He was on FaceTime at about two or three in the morning. He was on FaceTime to his family or whoever it was at like half two in the morning. And you're thinking I can't really turn around and go, 'Will you f***ing go to [sleep].' This brand new signing, I don't wanna upset him or anything like that."

"I was f***ed in the game the next day, and I remember thinking, 'You b*****d.' I was fuming."

While FaceTime wasn't around until 2010, it seems Warnock is referring to a similar video-calling platform like Skype. Needless to say, things went pear-shaped both for Liverpool and Warnock - with the Reds losing 1-0, putting an early end to their undefeated season.

Warnock found himself swapped out at half-time for Djibril Cisse (another summer signing in 2004) and was dropped by Rafa Benitez for the next two league matches, reports the Liverpool Echo.

In that ill-fated Bolton clash, Garcia played alongside Milan Baros and was denied a questionable equaliser as it was deemed offside. However, he scored his first goal for Liverpool two weeks later to help secure a 3-0 win against West Brom in his Anfield debut.

Despite the clash, Liverpool still managed to scoop up the Champions League trophy and celebrate one of the most memorable nights in the club's history later that season. But one reckons, Warnock took every precaution to never find himself sharing a room with Garcia again.
